Benjamin Bratland, 74, West Fargo, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, surrounded by his wild and crazy girls and mom.
Benjamin Sidney Bratland was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Fargo, to Gunval and Marie (Erickson) Bratland. He grew up in Davenport, N.D. and Fargo graduating from Fargo Central High School. Ben served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1962. He married Arlene Loock on June 17, 1960 in Moorhead, where they lived for a short time before moving to Fargo. In 1971, they moved to West Fargo. Ben worked at the Holsum Bakery for nearly 50 years. He was also a member of the Eagles and Teamsters Local 116.
Ben is survived by his wife, Arlene, West Fargo; four daughters, Laura (William) Cullen, Horace, Belinda (Randall) Rothhouse, West Fargo, Brenda (Kevin) Dockter, West Fargo, Kimberly (Troy) Thorsteinson, Horace; eleven grandchildren, Melissa Cullen, Michelle Cullen, Joseph Cullen, Madison Cullen, Jennifer (Andrew) Jewett, Melinda Rothhouse, Randall "Bud" Rothhouse, Eric Dockter, Marsha Dockter, Tyler Thorsteinson, and Ramie "Babe" Thorsteinson; four great-grandchildren, Kali Cullen, Brayan Cullen, Thomas Jewett, and Preston Rothhouse; one sister, Betty (Charles) Conrad, Fort Dodge, Iowa..
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marian Anderson and Helen Bratland.
A Memorial Service was held Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m., with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo. A reception followed.
Final resting place is the Davenport Cemetery.
