The Packers cross country teams had an impressive meet on Thursday in Wahpeton, as the boys team took second behind Fargo Davies and the girls, less than a week after topping two-time state champions Davies, took third behind Davies and Fargo South in a 13-team meet.
The boys finished just over a minute behind Davies, with an average 5k time of 17:22.98.
The girls finished just under two minutes behind Davies and 27 seconds behind South, with an average 4k time of 16:36.35.
"We have a very good group of runners," head coach Joe Bailey said. "They have put in 200 to 300 miles over the summer, worked hard during practice and put forth 100 percent effort in our first two meets."
The boys team was led by senior Darin Baltezore, who finished his 5k in 16:49.59, which was good enough for third place out of 120 runners.
The girls team's top performer was eighth-grader Jen Dufner, who ran her 4k in 15:56.18, which was fourth-best out of 142.
The West Fargo girls, despite not being ranked in the preseason, are currently seated at No. 1 in the North Dakota High School coaches poll.
The boys team received votes in the poll, but are currently not in the state's top five teams.
The teams will head to Dickinson on Saturday for a meet at 10 a.m.
