Burkhardsmeier recognized for 70 years of VFW service
Joe Burkhardsmeier was recognized at a meeting of VFW Post 7564, West Fargo for 70 consecutive years of membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the US. Joe joined the VFW while serving in the Navy during WWII stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Following his military service, he became a charter member of VFW Post 7067 Towner, N.D.
During Joe’s employment years as an iron worker, he moved throughout North Dakota and transferred his membership to Minot, Fargo, and eventually to West Fargo in 1982. As a member of VFW Post 7564 West Fargo, Joe has been actively involved with the Honor Guard attending funerals, parades, and flag presentations. He is also a member of the Military Order of Cooties.
Joe is a father of eight children. He is currently married to Margaret and they reside in West Fargo.
The West Fargo VFW and Ladies Auxiliary have a rich tradition in enhancing the lives of a lot of people through its community service programs, special projects and maintaining the National VFW motto of “Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living”.
