Plans are also underway for an Aloft Hotel at 925 19th Ave. E, in the southeast corner of 9th St. E and I-94.

The West Fargo Cambria Suites, franchised by Choice Hotels International, will be an all-suites hotel to service guests of the future conference center, as well as other visitors to the area. Father and son development, ownership and management team of Kevin and Aaron Johnson will develop the four-story, 103 suite hotel connected to the future 15,000 square foot conference center which KAJ Hospitality will also own and operate. KAJ Hospitality has corporate offices in Sioux Falls and Mitchell, S.D. and another in Kansas.

A Blarney Stone Restaurant, based off the one in Bismarck, will be located near the convention center.

West Fargo Planning and Zoning Commissioners saw the site plans last week for the Aloft Hotel. Staysharpe, headed by Kyle Newman, is requesting a Planned Unit Development amendment that city officials will review to make sure it meets parking, landscaping, setback and other requirement, as it pertains to the corridor overlay district.

Aloft Hotels are coined as a “Vision of W Hotels” and created by Starwood Hotels. These hotels are upscale and modern, different than most motels in the metro area.

The five-story hotel will have a total of 136 rooms.

A free-standing restaurant yet to be determined will be situated to the north side. The expectation is to begin work on the hotel right away with the restaurant to follow later this year or early next.

City Planner Steve Zimmer said the announcement of this second hotel came as a welcome surprise. “It was talked about previously just in passing and now it is moving through the channels and is going to happen.”

West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern said the city is “very excited to see the hotels each with a restaurant coming in. It gives those visiting our city more options on where to stay in West Fargo and more customers for our businesses in the city.”

The Cambria Suites is expected to open late summer of 2014, the Aloft Hotel in September of 2014.
