Cass 4-H’ers place in state contest

The Cass County 4-H Consumer Choices Junior and Senior Judging teams placed third and fourth, respectively, in the North Dakota State Consumer Choices Judging Contest at the North Dakota State Fair on July 22.

Approximately 100 4-H’ers from throughout North Dakota participated in the event.

Members of the junior team are Anna Skarphol, Fargo: Sam Radermacher, Wheatland; Brianna Mohs, Horace; Nishita Gaba, Fargo, and Astrid Axtman, Fargo.

Anna Skarphol received the highest honor, earning first-place high individual.

Members of the senior team are: Emily Christmann, Kindred, N.D.; Derek Phelps, Fargo; Kendra Karl, Harwood, N.D.; and Bethany Teets, Fargo.

Teets earned seventh- place high individual.

The teams are coached by Rita Ussatis, North Dakota State University Extension agent.

Consumer Choices Judging, a 4-H consumer activity, is an exercise in decision making. It involves ranking in four items in each of six classes. Classes included in this state contest were pizza, insect repellent and televisions.

Consumer Choices is one of many educational events sponsored through the 4-H program. 4-H is the youth education program of the NDSU Extension Service and is conducted by volunteer leaders.
