West Fargo realized a phenomenal year for building last year.
Final tallies in for 2012 building permit valuation had numbers coming in at $215,837,777, a level Mayor Rich Mattern touted at the start of Monday night's West Fargo City Commission meeting. "We did go over the $200 million mark and set a record. Compared to $86 million last year, which was a good year, this is extraordinary."
The breakdown for individual areas for the year includes: new building -- commercial, 45 permits for a valuation of $39,708,536; residential dwellings, 371 permits at $88,327,925, residential twinhome, 40 permits at $4,436,000, residential townhome, 4 permits for 28 units at $3,180,000, residential multiple, 7 permits for 402 units at $26,200,000, public, 6 permits at $37,172,795, church, 1 permit at $2,256,735, accessory, 44 permits at $1,059,155, and foundation only, 17 permits at $8,775,830.
On the building remodel side numbers included: commercial, 49 permits at a valuation of $9,187,845, residential, 297 permits at $3,181,151, public, 2 permits at $35,000, church, 3 permits at $129,200, and accessory, 9 permits at $150,105.
In the other building category, demolition accounted for $37,500 in valuation.
In other action, the commission:
-awarded the contract for Street Improvement District No. 2225, Eagle Run area street overlay to Border States Paving, Inc., Fargo, with their low bid of $1,148,730.20. The engineer's estimate was $1,305,000.
-awarded the contract for Street Improvement District No. 2223, for the Elmwood Court Area street overlay to Border States Paving, Inc., Fargo, with their low bid of $774, 856,10. The
engineer's estimate was $891,000.
-awarded the contract for Water Supply System improvements for Well #9 and Well #12 to LTP Enterprises, Inc., Fargo, with their low bid of $274,972. The engineer's estimate was $250,000;
-following a public hearing, approved first reading of the rezoning of Strawberry Fields 1st Addition from Agricultural to one and two family dwellings, limited multiple dwellings and light commercial. The request made by Osgood Investments is for a 12.05 acre parcel located east of 4th Street East and south of 32nd Avenue East;
-following a public hearing, approved first reading of rezoning of Eaglewood 2nd Addition from agricultural to one and two family dwellings, limited multiple dwellings and commercial office park. The request from Westwood Developments is for an approximate 45 acre parcel located south of I-94 and west of Sheyenne Street, south of the Timber Ridge Development;
-offered final plat and conditional use permit approval to All Season Motorsports for a 3.04 acre parcel for the expansion of their golf cart sales and service business located south of I-94 and east of Sheyenne Street, directly south of RJ's Conoco;
okayed second reading and final plat approval for Shadow Creek 4th Addition, a replat and rezoning from agricultural to single family dwellings;
-appointed City Administrator Jim Brownlee to the Diversion Project Assessment Committee;
-following a public hearing, approved a resolution determining their were insufficient protests for Street Improvement District No. 2225 and Street Improvement District No. 2223; which will now move forward;
-approved second and final reading of Ordinance No. 943 relating to penalties for unpaid parking tickets. The change pertains to the time frame for paying the fine, taking it from five days to ten days of the issuance of the ticket before the fee goes up from $8 to $10;
-approved second and final reading of Ordinance No. 941 relating to smoking in public indoor workplaces prohibited. The action repeals Chapter 15-05 of the revised ordinances of 1990 in its entirety for the city, making way for the newly adopted statewide ordinance provisions that are more restrictive.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West Fargo City Commission will take place Monday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at West Fargo City Hall, 800 4th Ave. E. All meetings are open to the public.
