City’s library requests bigger budget for books, online catalog
The West Fargo Public Library is asking the City Commission for a budget increase in order to more than double the number of books it has on its shelves.
The North Dakota Library Coordinating Council requires a certain number of books based on population.
In order to meet the requirements, the library is requesting $83,000 in its 2015 budget, nearly double the $44,000 budgeted for books in 2014.
The library must also increase its online catalog from $2,773 to $18,500 in 2015.
The city library must be found in compliance with the North Dakota Library Coordinating Council in order to receive state aid.
In 2014, the state council gave the West Fargo Public Library more than $39,000 in state aid.
The City Commission will approve a preliminary budget next month.
