Coldest wind chills of season expected tonight
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The coldest wind chills of the season will likely hit the region tonight into Tuesday morning, with values near the Canadian border possibly approaching 50 below, the National Weather Service says.
Hazardous wind chills of 25 below to 40 below zero will continue through this afternoon for most of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, including Cass and Clay counties, according to the weather service office in Grand Forks.
Dangerously low wind chill values will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions aren't taken, the weather service warned. People are urged to stay indoors and, if they must venture outdoors, to wear appropriate clothing, including hat and gloves.
The weather service forecast for Fargo calls for a high today near zero and a low tonight around 16 below with wind chill values as low as 34 below.
Tuesday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 2 below and wind chill values as low as 35 below.
Temperatures are expected to warm up as the week goes on, with forecasted highs of 12 degrees on Wednesday, 21 degrees on Thursday and 22 degrees on both Friday and Saturday.
