District prepares for spring activities at Sheyenne
The School Board decided Monday night to hire additional coaches for spring sports as Sheyenne High School adds to its roster next year.
The board unanimously approved hiring a girls’ track coach and boys track coach for Sheyenne High School as well as nine assistant track coaches for the two sports on Monday night. The board also approved filling coach positions for baseball girls tennis, girls soccer, two drama coaches, boys soccer and a weight training coach for the district. The district will also fill middle school coaching positions at Liberty Middle School – a feeder school to Sheyenne – to prepare for Sheyenne’s first high school spring season.
Sheyenne High School will compete independently at the varsity level in track and field, girls tennis, and one act play in spring 2015.
According to school board materials, Sheyenne will coop with West Fargo High School in baseball, softball, boys golf, and girls soccer next year. However, trends show Sheyenne may have enough interest to field a varsity baseball team by 2016. A coop is in place for next year to allow any Sheyenne baseball player with varsity level ability to play at that level at the West Fargo High School. Girls soccer and boys soccer will also be in coops with WFHS in 2014-15. However, if there are enough sub-varsity level players to form separate Sheyenne sub-varsity teams, the district would like to separate those teams to better prepare for two high school teams in the future.
