At least one person is dead after a train and pickup collided about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday just west of West Fargo.

Detective Joel Stading of the Cass County Sheriff's Office said the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Rescue crews were on scene and had not removed his body from the truck yet, which was still on the tracks, Stading said about 4 p.m.

The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are still determining if the driver of the truck was the only person in the vehicle.

The BNSF train collided with the truck at a marked intersection, pushing it about 900 to 1,000 feet west of the gravel intersection.

Authorities will investigate whether crossing arms were operating correctly, but Stading said it appears they were.

Stading said it was unclear if the pickup was parked on the tracks at the time of the accident.

Dispatchers said the accident happened in the 600 block of 38th Street Southwest.
