Faith Lutheran Church, 127 2nd Avenue East, West Fargo, will be holding several services to celebrate the Easter weekend.
Walking the way of Jesus through His passion and death to resurrection is the centerpiece of the Christian faith. Holy week began with Palm Sunday and continues with three continuous days of observation and reflection leading up to Easter Sunday.
Faith Lutheran begins this journey on Maundy Thursday, with worship at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday lifts the mandate of Christ to love one another, and is depicted through Jesus' washing of His disciples' feet. Worship on Maundy Thursday calls us to be servants as Christ served others. The services end with the stripping of the altar, symbolic of the altar as a place of sacrifice.
Good Friday recalls the death of Jesus with services at 5:30 p.m. and 7p.m. Through the medium of white face mime, Youth of Faith will present the story of the crucifixion, as we enter the darkness of the tomb.
Saturday, the third of the three days, is an Easter Vigil at 5 p.m. Participants gather in the west parking lot around a fire, and move from the fire with candles into the darkened worship center, symbolic of bringing the light into the darkness. With readings and music, baptisms and time for reflection, the gradual lighting of the worship center brings us to the Festival of Easter, where we celebrate with joy the victory of Jesus over the grave.
Sunday Easter worship services are 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Youth of Faith will serve an Easter breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11a.m. of egg bake, caramel rolls, fruit, juice and coffee. Journey in Faith, a ministry of Faith Lutheran Church, will hold Easter worship at 10 a.m. at the Scheels Center, followed by coffee and caramel rolls.
All are invited to participate to walk the Way of the Cross during the times noted. Participants are welcome, wherever they are in their faith journey.
