Faith Lutheran to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday
Cinco de Mayo, a traditional Mexican festival, will be celebrated on Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, 127 Second Avenue E, West Fargo.
The festivities begin with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m., and a Mexican dinner served at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-12. Children younger than six are free.
This event will mark the ninth Cinco de Mayo celebration sponsored by Sister Parish of Faith/Journey in Faith. The gathering honors Mexican culture and heritage through food and music. May 5 is a special Mexican holiday, recognizing the defeat of the French army at the Battle of Puebla on that date in 1862.
Highlighting this year's event will be free salsa dance lessons and other traditional dances by instructors from Gasper's School of Dance. A Mexican dinner, including tamales, will be served and children will be able to try their luck at breaking a Mexican piñata. Fair trade coffee, chocolate and other crafts will be available for purchase. Silent auction items include Norwegian products, art, silk and hand painted items from India, woodworking items, and numerous other items. A cake walk will also be held during the evening for $1 a round.
