FM Kennel Club to host open house at RRVF
The Fargo Moorhead Kennel Club recently moved to West Fargo, and to celebrate its throwing a party.
The public is invited to a free open house at the FM Kennel Club's new location in the temperature-controlled Commercial Building at the Red River Valley Fairground, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20.
"We moved and we're eager to show it off," said Terrie Hart Dahl, Public Education Director for the FM Kennel Club. "The Commercial Building is bigger and more expansive than our old location. Now, we really have the nicest location anywhere from Chicago to Seattle."
Guests at the open house can get the lowdown on exactly what the FM Kennel Club is all about, while enjoying a hot beverage and registering for door prizes. Club members will be on hand to answer any questions. There also will be demonstrations of agility, obedience and rally, as well as a "Parade of Breeds."
"We encourage the public to come out," Dahl said. "It's going to be a good family day. People can see what they've watched on TV in real life."
Information will be available regarding how a dog can become an AKC Canine Good Citizen, as well as the new rules for Canine Partners, which allows mixed breeds to participate in American Kennel Club Performance events. The first Canine Partners trials at the FM Kennel Club will be April 1.
The FM Kennel Club has been around since 1953 and currently has roughly 60 members. It holds approximately 15 dog-training classes a week regarding obedience and agility, Dahl said. The club also holds agility and obedience trials throughout the year, which bring in around 100 competitors from the region.
"We also do an All-Breed Dog Show, like Westminster," Dahl said. "It's a three-day event that has a best-in-show award each day. Some competitors and judges actually are from the Westminster competition."
