Ford O. Hansen, 97, of Detroit Lakes, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, surrounded by his loving family.

Ford Oliver Hansen was born to Charles and Olga (Selberg) Hansen on July 20, 1910 in Fertile, Minn. His childhood years were lived on the family farm at Meckinock, N.D., until he was 16 years old when the family moved to Fertile, where he graduated from high school in 1931.

Ford married Florence Carlson in 1939 and they purchased a farm at Lockhart, Minn., where they lived for 50 years. During those years they were involved in the activities of their children, their community and their church. Ford was an active member of the Beltrami Methodist Church, the Norman County Sportsmen Club, and served as a Lockhart Township official for several years. In addition to the farm operation, he worked as a heavy equipment operator on a number of projects, including the construction of the Grand Forks Air Base.

During the 1970s and 80s, the couple spent winters in Florida or Arizona. In 1989 they moved to Fertile, where Ford lived until October 2007, when he moved to Detroit Lakes.

Ford is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Jim) Sinclair of Detroit Lakes and Diane Hansen of Eveleth, Minn.; his sister, Jeanette Wilcox of Moorhead; four grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Florence; his parents, and his brother, Maurice.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Beltrami Methodist Church in Beltrami, Minn., with interment to follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Beltrami.

Arrangements are being handled by the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
