N.D., on July 6, 1924. She married Raymond Watland in Brownsville, Texas, on June 29, 1944, prior to him serving in the Army on the European Front during WWII. Upon his return after the war, they farmed near Antler, N.D., and moved to Fargo in 1951. They purchased a farm near Harwood, in 1954, moved to West Fargo in 1963 and later to Fargo. Raymond preceded her in death on July 12, 2002, and she moved to Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo in 2008.

Geraldine worked part-time as a county tax assessor, election clerk, and census worker. She was very proud of her 22 years as a Cass County Deputy Sheriff, retiring in 1989. At the time of her death, Geraldine was a member of Edgewood Methodist Church, Fargo, and loved actively participating in the church choir.

Jolly was an appropriate nickname. Her quick, dry sense of humor could make anyone laugh. The Watland house seemed always the "hotel" for overnight visits from friends and family, large meals and family get-togethers. Jolly enjoyed her family, her church, her co-workers and her community. She was loved by her extended family, her many friends and will be missed by all that knew her.

Jolly is survived by her son, Dwight, Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Karen (Patrick) Morrison, Fargo; 4 granddaughters, Rachel (Artem) Ivashchuk, Hunter, N.D., Brittany Watland, Scottsdale, Ariz., Karli Watland, Los Angeles, Calif. and Sara Morrison, Sioux City, Iowa. She is also survived by a brother, Chester (Loretta) Fossum, Williston, N.D. and a sister, Ruth Fossum, Fargo; brother-in-law, Leon (Ramona) Nicholsen, Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Pauline Brackelsberg, Aurora, Colo., Luella (Bert) Jespersen, Bismarck, N.D., Arlene Watland, Bismarck, N.D., Ruth Watland, Minot, N.D. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; daughter-in-law, Vicki and three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, from 6 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Edgewood United Methodist Church, Fargo. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
