Hummel takes to floor in volleyball
Andrea Hummel got a warm reception on her former home floor, as the West Fargo High School 2006 graduate took part on the Soroptimist All-Star Volleyball contest last Tuesday night.
Held annually in West Fargo, the match features the best from the West versus the beasts of the East in the competitive, yet friendly match.
Hanging out together throughout the course of the week, the girls become friends after many years of competition. Hummel has played with and against some of the girls in the contest for more than eight years, since taking up junior volleyball back in middle school.
The frontline player for the third-place Pack, Hummel played all sorts of roles for the East squad. She had 10 digs in the contest played in West Fargo, and had a handful more when the two squads went West for a one-day stint in Bismarck.
"She's a good leader out on the floor," Nicole Petersen, head coach of the Packer volleyball team, said of her standout. "She made my job easy. The group of seniors that we had this year had played together forever."
Hummel was the lone representative from the group, many of whom played as sophomores on the varsity squad. The team finished fifth twice and third once in the three-year run that featured Hummel, fellow all-stater Ali Edwards, Angie Young, Tiff Gjestvang and Amanda Hought.
