Ian Thomas Alves, 16, Horace, ND, died Friday, December 7, 2012 in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, following a courageous 18 months battle with cancer.
Ian was born December 28, 1995 in Waterbury, CT to Lise and John Alves. At age 3, Ian moved with his family to West Fargo. He attended West Fargo Schools and was currently a junior in West Fargo High School. The family moved to Horace in 2004.
Ian loved running and was a proud member of the WFHS Cross Country and Track Teams. He was a member of the WFHS Gamers Club. He recently earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ian was an avid reader who enjoyed a dramatic moment and a good (or bad) joke. He was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church in West Fargo.
He is survived by his mother, Lise and brother Sean, both Horace, ND; grandfather, George F. Griebel (Catherine A. Bauer), Indian lake, NY; grandmother, Carol Kennedy, Plano, TX and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, John in 2006; grandparents, Charlotte Collin-Griebel, Stephen Kennedy and Leonel and Maria Alves.
Visitation: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 5 to 7 in Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7.
Funeral: Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 1 in First Presbyterian Church, Fargo.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
