This program is designed to increase the understanding between the WFPD and the citizens it serves through hands on training. Topics will include: drug enforcement, SWAT, traffic stops, firearms, registered offenders, ride alongs, bomb team and more.

Since its inception in September of 2000, the West Fargo Citizen Police Academy has been very popular.

In addition to specialized classroom training, citizens are exposed to patrol duties with Police Department Officers. Citizens will participate in a wide range of training from classroom sessions to actual training scenarios.

Citizen Police Academy participants are not actually trained for police work. However, participants will have a better understanding of the West Fargo Police Department operations and the day- to-day responsibilitiesand duties that officers are tasked with on a regular basis.

The program also goes a long way in promoting community awareness which in itself is the most powerful force any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime.

The session is free. Applicants must be at least 20 years-old to participate.

Applications are available online at www.westfargopolice.com, and also at the West Fargo Police Department, 800 4th Ave. E.

Anyone with questions can contact Officer Rhonda Jorgensen at 433-5500.
