Karaoke bar closes; new lounge to open

The last song was sung at West Fargo’s sole karaoke bar, Divas and Rockstars on Sunday night.

Owner Jill Carlson said the business was doing fine but she decided after much consideration to close Divas and Rockstars and sell the building to the owners of Maxwells.

Maxwells owners plan to open a lounge, likely called “Max Lounge” in the spot which will offer fresh food, gourmet drinks and a sophisticated atmosphere for professionals, especially women all at an affordable price.

Mike Marcil, co-owner of Maxwells in West Fargo said he hopes to open the new lounge by April, May 1 at the latest. The City Commission unanimously passed Marcil’s liquor license for the former Divas’ location on Monday night. The two business owners expected to close on the sale this week.

At its regular meeting on Monday, the City Commission also passed the second reading of a fireworks ordinance that will allow residents to shoot off fireworks two days per year.

The West Fargo City Commission passed the second reading of a new ordinance that will allow residents ages 12 or older to set off fireworks until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve until midnight on the Fourth of July.

West Fargo police proposed ordinance after Chief Arland Rasmussen said his department responded to 58 fireworks complaints on July 4, 2013. The passing of the ordinance will make shooting off fireworks during that time legal but anyone shooting off fireworks outside of those time frames could face a citation for misdemeanor charges.
