Summer Reading Program Events:

Little Dreamers (Preschool)"

Storytime: You are invited to listen to stories and help your child(ren) with a simple make-and-take project. This program is geared for young children.  Don't underestimate the power of one half hour of time with your child. You need not be registered in the Summer Reading Program to attend this event. Thursday, July 5, 6:30 to 7 p.m. "Yankee Doodle;" Tuesday, July 10, 1:30 to 2 p.m. Animal Stories (Bring a stuffed animal and let it sleep over at the library!); Thursday, July 12, 6:30 to 7 p.m. Animal Stories (Bring a stuffed animal and let it sleep over at the library!)

Simply Stories: Tuesday, July 10, 10 a.m. Bring your little ones to the Library and enjoy two stories. This event is geared for lap babies and preschoolers. Unlike our regular storytimes, this program is just stories - no crafts. If you're looking for stories and make-and-take simple crafts, come to the Library Tuesdays at 1:30 or Thursdays at 6:30. You need not be registered in the Summer Reading Program to attend this event.

Dream Big - Read! (Kindergarten - Grade 5)

Kid's Garden Club: Thursday, July 5, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This program is for Dream Big-Read (K-5th) and Own the Night (6,7 & & 8th) participants registered in the Summer Reading Program. The goal of this program is to give the children the garden bug! We will hold short sessions on many gardening topics and they will get some hands-on practice in planting.

Monday Crafts:  Bed Bugs! July 9, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Bed Bugs! Oh, my!! Create a cool bed bug as a reading buddy, made from pottery and your imagination. This activity is designed for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade who are registered in the library's Summer Reading Program.

Own the Night (6th, 7th, and 8th Grade)

Kid's Garden Club: Thursday, July 5, 3:30 to 4:30 p. m. This program is for Dream Big-Read (K-5) and Own the Night (Gr. 6, 7, and 8) participants registered in the Summer Reading Program. The goal of this program is to give the children the garden bug. There will be short sessions on many gardening topics and some hands-on practice in planting.

Own the Night Party: Thursday, July 5, 6:30 to 8 p. m. Gather your friends and enjoy an evening of video gaming, craft and refreshments. This party is only for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. You need to be registered in the Summer Reading program to participate.

Craft Mondays:  Bed Bugs! July 9, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Make bed bugs from clay pots! This activity is designed for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who are registered in the library's Summer Reading Program.

Special Events:

Red River Valley Zoo Visit: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Red River Valley Zoo will bring animals into the library and zoo keepers will present information on Nocturnal Animals. Open to all ages.  No registration required.

Regular Events:

Genealogy: Saturday, July 7, 12 to 4 p.m. Genealogist Jackie Marler will be available to help explore family histories. Take your projects or just ask questions.

Knitty Giddy Group: Tuesday, July 10, 6:30 p.m. Adults are invited to join this fun group of knitters and crocheters. New and experienced crafters are welcome. Attend with your own supplies. Help will be provided to get beginners started. New knitters take size 8 or 10 needles and yarn. If you'd like to learn to crochet, take a crochet hook and yarn.

Puppet Show:  Plan Together, Tuesday, July 10, 2 to 2:30 p. m. Great News. The Puppet Shows are returning. The Kids on the Block (RSVP+) will present this performance geared for small children's understanding of important issues. (Who to ask and where to go when things go wrong.)

Friday Morning Movie: July 6, 10 a.m., "Fun and Fancy Free." Enjoy a favorite movie with a mouse, duck, dog, bear, giant, and a circus. 73 minutes of Cartoon fun. Rated (G)
