Limit lowered to 40 mph on West Fargo stretch of Main

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has permanently lowered the speed limit on a stretch of Main Avenue in West Fargo to 40 mph.

West Fargo city leaders favored keeping the speed limit at 40 mph between about Sixth Street East and 45th Street, but the NDDOT returned it to its original 50 mph after the stretch was repaired in August.

Responding to a request from the city, NDDOT director Francis Ziegler ordered the permanent change in speed limit, effective Sept. 15.

West Fargo officials previously argued it didn't make sense to change the speed limit when it would likely return to 40 mph in a few years after full reconstruction of the roadway takes place.
