Man arrested in West Fargo luring case
A 65-year-old salesman is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old West Fargo girl he met on the Internet, police said.
Robert Francis Blasey of Zimmerman, Minn., was arrested in Bismarck on Wednesday, said Detective Ken Zeeb of the West Fargo Police Department.
Police believe that Blasey drove to West Fargo at least once in the last two months to have sex with the girl, Zeeb said. The sex was consensual but illegal because of the girl's age.
Charges weren't formally filed in Cass County District Court on Thursday because Blasey was still being held in the Burleigh County Jail while officials worked out the details of his transport to the Cass County Jail.
Zeeb said he expects Blasey to be charged with luring a minor by computer, a Class B felony.
Investigators are looking into the possibility Blasey had other alleged victims or had contact with the West Fargo girl more than once, Zeeb said. That could lead to additional charges.
The mother of the 14-year-old reported the incident to police after looking at where her daughter had been online.
Zeeb said police suggest that parents keep tabs on what Web sites their kids are visiting, especially for teenagers.
Placing home computers in public spaces and using software that limits what Web sites can be accessed are also good safety tips, Zeeb said.
