The property, owned by FAR Properties will be located at 705 23rd Ave. E., West Fargo.

Last July, the Moorhead City Council approved a tax incentive package for a Microtel Inn & Suites to be built in the city near Interstate 94. At that time, owners of that hotel were deciding between locating in West Fargo or Moorhead.

West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern said that unlike incentives the city has available to attract manufacturing businesses; West Fargo does not have any economic incentives for the hospitality industry.

As of press time, Microtel officials had submitted no request for city incentives.

FAR Properties representatives did not return requests for comment.

According to building plans, the hotel would feature luxury suites as well as an indoor pool and hot tub.

The hotel would open later this year.

Last year, Mattern said the city hoped more hotels would build in the I-94 area.

The first hotel to open south of Main Avenue was the Cambria Suites and Convention Center, which opened in May.

It will soon be joined by the Element by Westin, a high-end environmentally friendly hotel currently under construction on the northeast corner of Interstate 94 and Ninth Street.

Prior to the plans for these thee hotels, only three others called West Fargo home and all three hotels are located along the Main Avenue corridor.

Microtel’s are part of the Wyndham chain which includes Howard Johnson Hotels, Wingate, Ramada and Super 8s among other brands.
