The Fargo-Moorhead Toppers Car Club will hold its 51st Annual Rod and Custom Car Show this weekend at the Veterans Memorial Arena, 1201 7th Ave. E., West Fargo. An extra day has been added to this year's show to give car lovers an additional day to attend the show and to allow club members more time to swap tips and ideas.

The show will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 27; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 28; and Sunday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An award presentation will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, for the best individual display, best club display, people's choice, and club choice awards.

Over 100 street cars, hot rods, muscle cars, and restored originals will be featured in the car show, as well as vintage motorcycles and an antique track snowmobile. Bonanzaville will also have a large display of vehicles from their museum collection available for viewing.

A new attraction at the show this year will be a miniature Nascar racetrack. The Nascar racetrack, also featured at recent Fargodome events, has been very popular with kids and dads, alike. "It's a guy thing. Kids will start playing, and the dads get involved right along side them," said Rich Barnes, a Toppers Club member and co-coordinator of the event.

Music will be provided by the Front Fenders, who will be performing all three days. The event will also include a variety of vendors displaying new products and parts available on the market.

Al Duval will serve as chairperson for the event. Duval, who has chaired the annual car show for the past several years, has been involved with the Toppers Club since 1973.

The club was founded by Erlyn Carlson back in 1953 to provide a family-oriented outlet for car lovers to share their enthusiasm with others in the area. As a non-profit organization, the club promotes the car show as its major event of the year, with each year's proceeds donated to local charities. Money from last year's car show provided donations to the New Life Center, the Emergency Food Pantry, the West Fargo Fire Department, Zachary Beyer Benefit, Mike Smith Benefit, Advanced Reading Store in Barnesville, Daisy Girl Scout Troup from Park Rapids, Valley Water Rescue, the Salvation Army, Special Olympics, Roger Maris 61-For-61, Oak Grove High School, and Fargo-Moorhead EVAC.

Advance tickets for the Toppers Car Show will be on sale at all local Stop-N-Go stores until March 26, priced at $6 for adults. Children 10 and under accompanied by an adult will get in free. Tickets will also be available at the door for $8.
