The new Cass County Museum is ready for its big debut at Bonanzaville with the grand opening scheduled for Tuesday Feb. 5. The Cass County Museum has been under construction since fall of 2009, when construction on the Lucien C. Barnes Pavilion began. The new exhibit includes several components from a recent donation to Bonanzaville from the State Historical Society of North Dakota in Bismarck, creating a complete transformation of the former museum space. The museum features a permanent exhibit with information and artifacts on Native Americans of the Red River Valley, bonanza farms and homesteading in North Dakota, and the modernization of North Dakota.

The Cass County Museum will be on display year-round after Feb. 5 in addition to the rotating exhibit gallery with “The Lincoln Effect: How the Presidency Changed the Man and the Land” that is on display through February.

“With the opening of the Cass County Museum, Bonanzaville has now become a must-see historical attraction throughout all of North Dakota,” said Bonanzaville Executive Director Troy White on the significance of the new museum. The ribbon cutting for the grand opening is set for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 5, followed by a reception until 6 p.m. with wine and appetizers being served. The general public is invited to attend the event with free admission.

Bonanzaville is a pioneer village and museum operated by the Cass County Historical Society, with a mission to collect, display and interpret artifacts relevant to the history and cultural heritage of the Red River Valley. It is the region’s largest historical attraction with 43 historic buildings, and more than 400,000 artifacts.
