New year, same result for the West Fargo girls swimming and diving team.

A strong year all the way to the finish.

As they did in 2010, the Packers took fourth place at the North Dakota Class A State Tournament, and once again Danica Dutt came home with her team's lone individual title.

Bismarck Century stole the show after racking up 352 points to beat out second-place Fargo North by 14 points. Minot finished in third place with 227 points to edge the Packers by one.

Dutt successfully defended her 100 butterfly title, which she picked up for the first time last year as a freshman. This year, her time of 57.01 seconds was nearly three seconds faster than second place Emily Roche of Fargo North. The time also was more than two seconds faster than her 2010 championship time.

Dutt, who also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle, earned all-state first team honors alongside teammates Hallie Peterson and Paige Weisz. Julissa Johnson, Rachel Kranda, Alyssa Olson and Aubrey Wentz all earned all-state second team distinctions for the Packers.

Peterson earned West Fargo's next highest placing after taking third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 56.78 seconds. The eighth grader also was the Packers' highest placer in the 100 free after taking fifth with a time of 54.26 seconds. Wentz was two seconds back and placed eighth.

Sophomore Wentz garnered fourth place in the 200 individual medley, and Weisz rounded out the Top 8 in the event.

West Fargo's final individual placing came from Weisz, who took sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.30.

As for relays, the Packers held their own, Taylor Laufenberg, Weisz, Dutt and Wentz swam to a fourth-place finishing it the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.39, beating out Jamestown by more than three seconds.

In the 400 free relay, the Packers picked up third place and 32 points toward their team total thanks to the efforts of Peterson, Alyssa Olson, Rachel Kranda and Dutt. Their time of 3:37.77 was only .06 seconds slower than second-place Fargo North.

The only blip on West Fargo's radar came in the 200 freestyle relay. Peterson, Alyssa Olson, Alexa Olson and Wentz qualified second in the prelims, but were disqualified in the heat race.
