The Veterans Memorial Pool as everyone remembers it at 131 6th Ave. E. in Herb Tintes Park, closed after an almost 60-year run, paving the way for demolition and a rebuild of an entirely new recreational complex on the site. The West Fargo Park District is overseeing the redo which is set to be completed for use next summer.

The Red River Valley Fair was back bigger and better with a mixed bag of rock and country performers including chart toppers Randy Houser, Hunter Hayes, and The Band Perry, who made up the performance scheduled for last year.

Caterpillar officials were joined by local and state dignitaries for a celebration marking the five-year anniversary milestone of acquiring the remanufacturing business in West Fargo as well as the completion of a major $50 million expansion to the plant atq 1262 W. Main Ave.

Tim Solberg assumed duties as Senior Planner for the city of West Fargo filling the position left open by the departure of longtime planner Steve Zimmer. Solberg had previously spent six years in the Cass County Planning Department.

BlackRidgeBANK opened its brand new building and location on West Fargo’s busiest roadway, Veterans Blvd. at 855 26th Ave. E. Darren Klabo serves as market president.

Daniel “Dick” Twichell, a founder of Ohstad, Twichell, PC, one of the largest law firms in North Dakota, died in Scottsdale, Ariz. Where he and his wife of 58-years, Hilda, spent the winter months.

West Fargo City Commissioners agreed to proceed with the project concept and approved a plan for the reconstruction of 7th Avenue East from 17th Street East to 45th Street, a continuation of a previous leg of work done from 9th Street East to 17th Avenue East.

Alton and Aldyth Hendrickson, West Fargo, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary at a private family event. They were married July 29, 1945. They have seven children, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Noreen Fischer, West Fargo, celebrated her 80th birthday with an open house hosted by her children and grandchildren. She was born Sept. 14, 1933.

The West Fargo School Board approved the construction of yet another elementary school on 52nd Avenue which will be built for the 2015-2016 school year.

Attendance figures were reported up from the prior year for the 2013 Red River Valley Fair, with numbers of $117,000 estimated for its six-day run.
