Sheyenne High School names 6 more coaches
West Fargo Sheyenne High School Activities Director Ross Richards recently announced that the following have accepted head coaching positions at Sheyenne High School for the 2014-2015 school year. All will be the first head coaches of the respective programs.
Troy Thorson – Girls’ Cross Country: Thorson is currently employed at Sheyenne High School as a special education teacher. Thorson brings 10 years of cross country and track coaching experience to the Sheyenne program. Thorson coached McLaughlin High School in South Dakota to a state championship in 2006 and was most recently the head girls’ cross country coach at Fargo South, where he earned EDC Coach of the Year honors in 2012.
Holly Strand – Cheer: Strand is currently employed at Sheyenne High School as a health sciences teacher and has a strong background in cheer in the state of North Dakota. Strand has served as the head cheer coach at Fargo South since 2008 where she guided the program to four state championships. Additionally, she serves as the president of the North Dakota Cheer Coaches Association.
Erich Richardson – Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving: Richardson brings an array of experiences from the local swim circuit with him to the Sheyenne boys and girls swim programs. Since 2011, Richardson has served as the Shanley High School’s head girls swimming and diving coach and since 2008, he has assisted the boys swimming and diving team at West Fargo High School. Richardson is also a swim instructor for the West Fargo Flyers Swim Club.
Sasha Steichen – Dance: Steichen brings a background of success as a coach and dancer to the Sheyenne Dance program. Steichen has been the head coach of the West Fargo Mystikix Dance Team for the past two years where she guided the squad to a first-place finish at the UDA Nationals High Kick division in 2014. Steichen was also a member of the North Dakota State University Bison Dance Team that won a National Championship in 2013. Steichen is currently pursuing a degree in practical nursing.
Jaclyn Brown – Speech: Brown currently is employed at Sheyenne High School as a language arts teacher. Brown is a 2012 graduate of Concordia College with a major in communication arts and literature education. Brown has extensive experience in the fine arts, ranging from participation in the forensics to judging speech tournaments and directing operas.
Adam Dodd – Debate: Dodd is currently employed at Sheyenne High School as a language arts/STEM teacher. Dodd is a 2012 graduate of NDSU with a degree in English education. Dodd most recently served as the head debate coach at West Fargo High School since 2011 and has helped double student participation during his tenure. Dodd has also served as a debate judge for the NDHSAA.
Sheyenne High School is continuing to work through a phase-in process over the next two years, one grade level at a time, which will culminate with the school becoming a grades nine-12 high school in 2015-2016, when this year’s sophomores will become its first graduating class.
The 2014- 2015 school year will be the first in which Sheyenne High School will be an official member of the Eastern Dakota Conference and field varsity-level teams.
