The first athletic team to play under the "Mustang" moniker, the 9th Grade volleyball team, competed on Saturday in Jamestown Jamboree tournament.

In this tournament, the Mustangs went 1-2-1 in four two-set matches.

In their first match, the Mustangs lost to Bismarck by scores of 16-25 and 22-25.

The second was chalked up as the Mustangs first victory, as they beat Jamestown 27-25 and 25-21.

The Mustangs faced Fargo South next, losing 11-25 and 18-25.

Their final match of the tournament against Bismarck-St. Mary ended in a draw, as they won the first set 25-22 before losing the second 14-25.

Coach Jenna Green saw potential in her team and was happy with the way they performed. "To be the first 'Mustang' team and to get that first win is really exciting," Green said. "We have a really talented team that's been playing together for a while, and I feel we can compete with schools that have established programs."
