Senior Mark Staples, the son of Les and Brenda, has been named the West Fargo High School Student of the Month for September, sponsored by the West Fargo Exchange Club.
Staples is the student body president for West Fargo, as well as the vice president of the North Dakota Association of Student Councils (NDASC).
Thanks to an idea of his, the NDASC and the United Way will be teaming up on October 11 to bring high-school students out to serve for the inaugural North Dakota Statewide Student Day of Caring, where students will go into their communities and volunteer.
"Community service has always played a crucial part in my life," Staples said.
Around West Fargo, Staples has been involved with Fill the Dome for several years and is now on its planning committee. He is also on the Strategic Planning Committee and the Education Foundation Committee for the school district, as well as being a two-time state champion for Student Congress.
On top of all that, Staples has also been the president of the youth group at his church for the past two years.
While he has yet to choose a college to attend, he is leaning toward attending an Ivy League school on the east coast and earning a degree in law.
