Five Sunmart Food Stores from Fargo, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, and West Fargo raised $6056 during the month of July by selling American Red Cross squares to their customers. The sale of Red Cross squares helps to provide local disaster assistance such as food, clothing, shelter, health and mental health services for those individuals and families affected with disaster, primarily single family fires.
"This is a great partnership between Sunmart Foods, our customers, the Red Cross and the community we live in," said Dave Dale, assistant store director for Sunmart Foods.
Over the last twelve months the local chapter has responded to over 105 local disasters, not including the spring flood response, and thanks to the generous support from Sunmart Foods and their customers the Red Cross mission of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies will help change lives.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
