Ted Kiehl, 89, rural Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes.
Ted was born to Gottlieb and Theophile (Wilde) Kiehl on Feb. 8, 1918 in Detroit Lakes. He grew up on the family farm in Becker County, and attended school in rural Detroit Lakes. As a young adult he was a mechanic and hired out for farm work.
Ted married Alice Lundeen on June 5, 1939 in Sisseton, S.D. Ted and Alice made their home in rural Detroit Lakes, where they bought a farmstead to farm. Ted worked at Becker County Sand and Gravel for many years, retiring at the age of 62. During this time he worked for Adison-Miller Ice Works in the winter months for four years, and also continued to farm. Ted married Eleanor Hanson in 1981. Eleanor died in January of 2004.
Ted was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting wood and was a John Wayne fan. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
Ted is survived by his children, Donald Kiehl of North Pole, Alaska, Carol Hanson of Detroit Lakes, Judy (Vernon) Block of Detroit Lakes, Donna Weise of North Pole, Alaska and Duane (Donna) Kiehl of West Fargo; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ted in death were his parents, wife, 13 brothers and one sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with interment following in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
