With Monday's meet behind them, the West Fargo girls golf team is down to the postseason, and so far they've been a model of consistency.

Last Tuesday, they once again placed fourth overall during the Red River Invitational at Kings Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks. The Packers accumulated a team total of 394, which was 24 strokes off third place and more than 40 strokes off Fargo Davies' first-place finish.

Then Monday, West Fargo culminated the regular season with a 379 and another fourth-place finish at the Fargo Country Club.

Of their eight matches this fall, the Packers have taken fourth in all but one; a seventh-place finish Aug. 25 in Wahpeton.

As she has done all season, Ashley Bixby led the way for West Fargo with a team-best 88 on Tuesday, and an 84 on Monday. Tuesday's 88 was good enough for a fifth-place tie in the standings, but it also was the highest score the sophomore had put up since her season-opening 87 on Aug. 19.

Windy conditions on the course likely played a part in that. In fact, the lowest score of the day was an 80 posted by Grand Forks Red River's JoDee Wheeler.

Bixby slipped to sixth place overall in the East Region standings with a season average of 84.3 strokes. She had been tied for fifth the week before. The next highest Packer in the standings is Brittany Rheault, who ranks 22nd with a 97.7 average. Lauren Johnson is in 25th after averaging 100.1 strokes.

The Packers are entering the postseason ranked No. 4 in the conference with a season team stroke average of 388.4.

The girls now have less than a week to prepare for the East Region Tournament, which takes place Monday, Sept. 26 at Edgewood Golf Course in Fargo.

Edgewood will play host to the State Tournament Oct. 3-4. Tee-off begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 3, and qualifiers will play 18 holes each day of the tournament with awards being presented at the conclusion of Tuesday's play.

Girls swimming and diving

Another meet, and another win for the West Fargo girls swimming and diving team.

Their most recent victory came Thursday against conference foe Fargo South. The Packers, powered by first-place finishes in every event save the 200 individual medley, defeated the Bruins 138-48.

Danica Dutt, Hallie Peterson and Rachel Kranda all took first place in two individual events apiece. All three also helped out with legs in various relays, which garnered a clean sweep by the Packers.

Other top West Fargo finishes included first place by Paige Weisze in the 100 breaststroke (she out touched South's Laura Schott by less than .2 seconds), and first place in diving by Dani Davis.

The Packers are scheduled to travel to Grand Forks for a dual against Red River on Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. They then will attend an invitational at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Football

The West Fargo football team managed to finagle its first win of the season Friday on the road against Williston.

The Packers (1-2) led with three touchdowns before the Coyotes answered, and held on for the 28-18 victory.

Even though they lost, Williston (1-3) racked up a game-high 356 yards of offensive, of which 205 came from passing. Coyotes quarterback Markus Noeske went 13-for-32 through the air with two touchdowns.

While the Packers pass defense wasn't perfect, Noeske did give up three interceptions, one of which was ran back 40 yards by Shelby Schulz for West Fargo's second score of the game. The 5-foot, 8-inch Schulz finished with two picks and six tackles on the night. On offense, the junior running back had 10 carries for 48 yards.

In fact, most of West Fargo's offense came from groundwork. Shane Siverson only had four carries on the night, but racked up a game-high 109 yards with two TDs.

Senior Packers quarterback Tucker Bucholz scampered seven times for 23 yards, including a goal-line push that resulted in West Fargo's final score of the game. Bucholz also completed 12 of 29 passes for 112 yards.

West Fargo's next game is once again on the road. They travel Friday to Grand Forks for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against EDC-leading Red River (3-1).
