Ty's Take: West Fargo wrestling thumps Fargo South
The West Fargo wrestling team only had one contest last week, but they made it count.
On Thursday, the Packers routed visiting Fargo South 61-12.
The win improved the Eastern Dakota Conference leaders to 5-0 in conference play and 10-0 overall. Out of four tournaments this season, the Packers have finished first, second, third and sixth.
The Bruins (1-4 EDC, 1-4 overall) won just three of the 14 weight classes Thursday, and West Fargo's Drew Johnson at 195 pounds received the only victory by forfeit.
West Fargo's Trevor Kringlie had the fastest fall of the evening, pinning Rashidi Kikopa in 1 minute, 7 seconds in the 120-pound bout. Not far behind was Jesse Shearer at 113 pounds, who stuck Marvin Berry in 1:19.
Weston Dobler (132 pounds), Christian Ramberg (138), Miles Scholl (170), Preston Lehmann (182) and Steven Sola (220) all won by fall for the Packers. During the 126-pound bout, West Fargo's Peter Rodrigues picked up a technical fall in 4:21 over Logan Rhode.
West Fargo's Tanner Kuznia and Shelby Schulz both had major-decision victories in their bouts.
New polls for Class A should be coming out Thursday. In the most recent polls released Dec. 15, West Fargo gleaned 177 points to take the top spot in the state, and had 10 wrestlers ranked in the Top 6. Jordan Shearer, Kringlie, Anjelo Shepherd and Lehmann all were ranked No. 1.
Runner-up was Bismarck High with 165 points, however, since then it did procure a close, two-point edge over the Packers in the Bismarck Rotary.
This week, the Packers will be heading to Red River High School for the two-day Grand Forks Multiple Dual tournament, which begins Friday. Last year, West Fargo won four of the duals, with its only loss coming to Bismarck.
West Fargo girls hockey on six-game winning streak
The four-game losing skid earlier in the season is now a distant memory for the West Fargo girls hockey team.
West Fargo improved to 8-4 on the season after picking up a pair of victories last week that extended their winning streak to six games.
The Packers began by besting Jamestown 5-0 on Tuesday, before stifling Devils Lake 13-0 on Friday.

Rachel Monkman picked up a hat trick on Tuesday, and also scored a goal Friday. West Fargo points leader Kelly Krahn went on a tear against Devils Lake, scoring three goals and notching four assists.
In the net, goaltender Andrea Klug stopped 26 shots against Jamestown, while Morgan Sterling blocked a dozen shots in the win over Devils Lake.
The Packers were scheduled to play Fargo North (11-2-1) on Tuesday, but results were unavailable by press time. They play again Friday at 7:30 p.m. hosting Mandan, and then head to Fergus Falls, Minn., for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
