Veterans of Foreign Wars makes donation benefitting Lisbon home
The North Dakota VFW recently donated $11,225.79 to the Board of Directors of the North Dakota Veterans Home Foundation at Lisbon. The money was raised during the year Ray and Liz Harkema served as State Commander and Ladies Auxiliary President of the North Dakota VFW. Ray and Liz are life members of West Fargo VFW Post 7564 and have a strong interest in the welfare of the state's veterans.
The donation given to the Home Foundation aided the Foundation in donating a total of $33,597.59 to the Veterans Home to be used for building a gazebo and fencing for the patio area intended for the use of the home's special unit for patients suffering from dementia as well as four patient lifts and a portable automated vital signs monitoring system.
The North Dakota Veterans Home Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1987. The goal of the foundation is to build a permanent endowment from which income is used for activities, programs, and equipment to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the Veterans Home. Its board of directors promotes giving to the endowment fund, manages and invests the funds, and allocates income from the investments. Board members are made up of volunteers from the DAV, VFW, AMVETS, American Legion and Vietnam Veterans of America.
