Cass County deputies say 38-year-old Shane Syvertsen from California was driving west on Sheyenne street when he lost control. The car skidded and rolled, ending up in the river.

Fire fighters had to extricate his wife, 38-year-old Becky Syvertson. Shane was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.

"They're pretty lucky that we pulled them out alive tonight. You get alcohol and driving mixed and it is never a good thing, and you through in a swollen river on top of that and I think they are pretty lucky.

Both Syvertsons were taken to essential health with non-life threatening injuries.
