Volleyball wins two, loses three in Marshall

The Packers experienced a mixed bag over the weekend in a Marshall, Minn., tournament, but suffered a massive blow off the court earlier in the week, as MRI results indicated that senior Amanda Levin has a torn ACL and MCL, and is out for the season. She will also have to sit through the girls' basketball season, but hopes to defend her state titles in track this spring.

"Trying to replace her will be really hard," head coach Paula Pierson said. "She is such a competitor. We've put in younger athletes with little middle experience, and their learning time on the court will have to come quickly."

With Levin out of the lineup, the Pack dropped their first two games of the tournament on Friday, falling to New Prague 2-0 (25-12, 25-14) and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 15-11).

The team bounced back on Saturday, winning two out of three. They beat Canby 2-0 (25-9, 25-16) and Bloomington Jefferson 2-0 (25-23, 25-15) before falling to LeSueur-Henderson 2-0 (25-20, 25-21).

Leading the team was senior Courtney Suppa, who recorded 40 kills over the course of the tournament. Senior Shelby Gustafson tallied 31 kills of her own, along with six aces.

The team is currently 5-7 on the season, but has only played one conference game, which was a 3-2 loss to Fargo Shanley.

The Pack head to Grand Forks tomorrow for a 7 p.m. game against Red River.
