West Fargo helps set new record for Christmas shoe boxes
Six West Fargo churches and organizations were among the 297 North Dakota groups that helped set a new record for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. North Dakota packed 15,726 shoe boxes in the 2009 campaign, 488 more than the 15,238 packed in 2008.
According to the records of the Moorhead collection site, participating in West Fargo were Faith Lutheran, Holy Cross Catholic, Linden Tree Circle Eventide, Shiloh Evangelical Free, Triumph Lutheran Brethren West, and the West Fargo High School Key Club. The six groups packed 481 shoe boxes. Another 58 shoe boxes were turned in by individuals, making a total for West Fargo of 539.
Other participating Cass County groups included the following:
Arthur - United Methodist; Ayr - Trinity Lutheran Kids; Casselton - Sunshine Center; Davenport - Canaan Moravian Church and the Davenport school; Grandin Presbyterian Church; Horace Lutheran; Hunter - First Lutheran and First Presbyterian; Kindred - Norman Lutheran; Leonard - West Prairie Free Lutheran, and Tower City - Presbyterian Hannah Circle. They packed 486 shoe boxes.
In Fargo, 25 churches and organizations packed 2,562 and another 250 shoe boxes were turned in by individuals. The total for all of Cass County was 3,837.
After being screened in Minneapolis, the Cass County shoe boxes will be pooled with other Midwest shoe boxes and sent to orphans and needy children in Abkhazia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Macedonia, Malawi, Mauritius and Niger.
