Fargo Police Sgt. Bill Ahlfeldt said the 33-year-old victim wasn't seriously injured and refused medical treatment.

Police responded at about 1:46 a.m. to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Gibraltar Avenue North.

Sgt. Mark Lykken said the tenant and his friends told police they heard a knock at the door and answered it, and the suspect asked specifically for the tenant. When he came to the door, the suspect allegedly struck him with a baseball bat and punched him several times.

The tenant's friends tried to help him and also were assaulted, Lykken said, adding one of the friends was punched and kicked by a separate male suspect.

The suspects fled the scene but were arrested when police stopped their vehicle a short distance from where the assault happened. A bat was recovered and taken into evidence, Ahlfeldt said.

Nicholas Berlin, 22, of West Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and taken to the Cass County Jail.

The nature of the relationship between Berlin and the victim wasn't known, Lykken said.
