West Fargo Sunmart project moves ahead

Major remodeling is moving ahead at the West Fargo Sunmart, which along with other Sunmart stores in the area is getting a facelift and possibly a brand change.

The Sunmart at 1100 13th Ave. E. in West Fargo could soon be renamed a Family Fare Supermarket, based on paperwork filed with the city in connection with the company’s application for a permit to make improvements.

If the store changes its name, it is likely the Moorhead Sunmart store and two stores in Fargo will follow suit.

A local Sunmart official told city officials in January that Sunmart was looking for a second location in town and the company was planning to rebrand and remodel all of its area stores as part of a multimillion-dollar revamp.

Meredith Gremel, director of corporate communications for Sunmart’s parent company, SpartanNash, confirmed that the West Fargo Sunmart will open a liquor store that will have access from the grocery store.

She declined to say whether SpartanNash was looking at West Fargo for a new store location.

West Fargo officials say it appears such a search may be ongoing, based on calls the city has received asking for certain kinds of information.
