Western State Bank hires Schwarz, Kommer

Western State Bank recently hired Josh Schwarz as a credit analyst and Michelle Kommer as chief administrative officer/general counsel.

Schwarz’s duties include working alongside commercial lenders through the loan approval process, completing financial analysis of customers and assessing collateral values for all seven bank locations.

He has over nine years of experience in the banking industry, previously serving as business development manager at Deere Employees Credit Union, Fargo. Originally from Jamestown, Schwarz earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Northern State University, Aberdeen, S.D. He currently resides in Fargo with his wife and their daughter.

Kommer will lead the human resource, information technology, legal, and loan/deposit operations functions for the company. She previously served in executive leadership positions at Noridian/Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota and Otter Tail Corp., as the senior vice president of human resources, responsible for all human resources and leadership development functions for those companies. She also has prior experience in bank operations and bank and government auditing.

Originally from Fargo, Kommer received her Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from Mayville State University, Mayville, N.D. She earned her master’s degree in management from the University of Mary, Fargo, and her law degree from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks.

Kommer has been a passionate advocate for child welfare in North Dakota as a foster and adoptive parent and in founding the North Dakota Heart Gallery in 2006. She serves on the board of directors for Churches United for the Homeless and Fraser Ltd. Kommer currently resides in Fargo with her husband, Toby, and their three daughters.
