Roxanne Westman of Mapleton took home best of show and grand champion honors in the Adult-Nature/Scenic division at this year's Red River Valley Fair held July 9-17, for her original piece of artwork titled 'Warm Invitation,' featuring an autumn landscape theme.
A graduate of West Fargo High School, Roxanne has been a photography enthusiast since receiving her first Kodak Instamatic camera as a young girl.
She credits her father, Raymond Hajek, an avid photographer himself, for being instrumental in leading her on the way, offering his expertise in some of the techniques she's acquired through the years.
A majority of her training has been arrived at through classes, workshops, joining the local Fargo Moorhead Camera Club, and many hours of actual 'shooting' on her own.
Along the way, the photography has grown into a family adventure, from picking out the name of her website and her son, Don, creating the actual site, to taking photography trips, to critiquing her wide variety of photography shots, which include: outdoor, nature, still, and macro. She also does graduation and family (including babies and children,) special events and church activity photography.
Roxanne attributes her success and longevity in the field to "personal relationships that have been built through photography, the courage to step out on this adventure, perseverance in pursuing the photography learning experience, and placing in some contests thanks to blessings from God."
In addition to enjoying photography, Roxanne is employed as a Business Analyst for Noridian Administrative Services.
She and her husband, Don, are the parents of Donald and Kristen.
