WF volleyball star signs with Jamestown
One of West Fargo's top volleyball players won't be traveling far from home for the beginning of her collegiate career.
Jamestown College head volleyball coach Jon Hegerle recently announced that Allison Barta signed a letter of intent to enroll with the Jimmies next year and play volleyball.
Barta graduates this spring from West Fargo High School, where she excelled academically and athletically.
Barta was an All-Conference, All-State and All-Tournament selection for the Packers, and was named the Exchange Club Student of the Month for November. Hegerle said her athleticism, skill set and competitiveness will be a great addition to Jimmie volleyball.
"Allison's development in the West Fargo volleyball program has prepared her well for competing at the collegiate level," Hegerle said. "In working with Allison at a number of camps last summer and watching her compete her senior year, it quickly became apparent that we wanted her to become a Jimmie.
"Allison truly has the tools to be an impact player in our league, and I am looking forward to helping her reach her potential at Jamestown College."
In November, the Packers made it to the North Dakota Class A state tournament for the first time in three years. Barta and Rachel Hummel led West Fargo with 29 kills apiece during the tournament, sparking the Packers to a consolation championship title.
West Fargo finished 10-8 in Eastern Dakota Conference play, and was 19-19 overall.
Barta plans to major in nursing at Jamestown College. She is the daughter of Chris and Hope Barta and Wendy Barta.
