WEST FARGO—The West Fargo Police Department has received a $27,114 grant to buy ballistic vests and helmets.

The gear will be carried in police vehicles for use in high-risk incidents.

The grant came from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Cathie Thompson, a co-owner of the West Fargo Firehouse Subs franchise, said in a release she was glad the foundation was able to give back to the community.

"I did my research when looking for which franchise I would like to be involved with; I was impressed with what I saw in Firehouse Subs and made my selection," said Thompson, who owns the local franchise with Dale Thompson and Marguerite and Dave Kent.

West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan said in the release that the new gear will provide an extra level of protection for officers.

"Programs like this are invaluable to first responders who are seeking funding to purchase needed equipment," Reitan said.
