West Fargo Chamber exec bows out

Kent Campbell, executive director and CEO of the West Fargo Area Chamber of Commerce, in an apparent abrupt move, has left the position he held since June 29, to "pursue other opportunities," according to a press release issued late Friday afternoon Jan. 29, by chamber officials.

The release said that Campbell had notified the board of directors he would be leaving, with Chamber board of director chairperson Kathy Lewin stating "we have accepted Campbell's resignation and (we) thank him for his directorship this past six months. We wish Kent well and thank him for his accomplishments."

Lewin said Monday that she could release no further details about the situation due to confidentiality issues. Campbell was unable to be reached for comment.

Lewin said the board of directors will begin a search immediately to fill the position.

In the release, Lewin stated, "It is our goal to continue to grow our membership and to be an integral participant in this vibrant community. We believe strong leadership is an important factor in advancing our presence and serving our membership. We look forward to our Big Event and future programs. During the search for a new executive director, the chamber will continue to provide the services and resources our members have come to expect."

West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern stated Monday that Campbell's departure caught him "completely by surprise. As far as my dealings with Kent, he was very approachable (just like Chris, former chamber executive director) and knowledgeable."

Beyond that, Mattern said he doesn't know details of the action. "In any case, the city of West Fargo hopes to continue with our great working relationship with the chamber in the future and looks forward to working with the new director. As the city has grown, so has the chamber. We, as a city, look forward to growing together as partners in making our city even better."

Prior to joining the West Fargo Chamber, Campbell graduated from Concordia College, and had over 20 years of experience in chamber positions in Iowa, Washington, and Minnesota, most recently employed as a consultant for Woodward Davis and Associates in Seattle, Wash.
