Blaze ignites chemicals in Dwight, N.D. storage shed, launching fireball into the air


DWIGHT, N.D. – A fire in a storage shed at ABU Trailers caused chemicals to explode and sent a large fireball into the air Thursday, Dec. 7, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

According to the sheriff’s office:

About 8:20 a.m., a small storage shed at ABU Trailers, 606 Miller St., started on fire. Inside the building were 55-gallon containers that held unknown chemicals.

The containers exploded, sending up the large fireball.

The Dwight and Wahpeton fire departments responded to the scene. No injuries were reported in the fire or explosion.

The sheriff’s office said the chemicals presented no risk to the public. The only damage reported was to the storage shed.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
