West Fargo teacher wins Award of Excellence

West Fargo High School teacher Michelle Strand earned the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching as named by President Barack Obama. For winning, Strand earns $10,000 from the National Science Foundation, a visit with members of Obama's administration and is invited to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony and other educational events and celebrations.

The award is given to 213 science and mathematics teachers across the country. The winners are selected by a panel of scientists, mathematicians and educators after a preliminary process in each state. Strand will receive her award in Washington on Sept. 8.
