Several West Fargo individuals were among more than 430 University of North Dakota students took part in the 2011 Summer Commencement ceremony Friday, Aug. 5, in the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus.

It was the fourth summer commencement that UND President Robert O. Kelley's has presided over. UND faculty member and Associate Professor of English Rebecca Weaver-Hightower delivered the main address to students.

Graduates, their degrees and homestowns include: Troy Ertelt (PhD), Jeffry Johnson (EdD), and Hannah Yexley (MS).

Local students were among the 159 North Dakota State University students to be placed on the summer 2011 dean's list. A student must earn a 3.50 grade point average or higher and be enrolled in at least 12 class credits to qualify.

Students named to the list and their area of study include: Lacey M. Finnell, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Horace; Noah A. Avon, Accounting, Shelby R. Breker, Sociology, Ian M. Busta, Zoology, Calie C. Craddock, Political Science, Stephanie A. Cwikla, English Education, Elizabeth A. Dvorak, Human Development and Family Sci., Trisha K. McDonald, Undecided, and Elliott R. Schwab, Music, all West Fargo

Philip Jahnke, of West Fargo, has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2011 semester at Concordia University, St. Paul. Jahnke is a junior majoring in Mathematics. Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are recognized for superior academic performance by being named to the Dean's List.

Concordia University, St. Paul is a comprehensive, private university operated under the auspices of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and one of 10 schools that comprise the Concordia University System. Established in 1893, Concordia offers more than 50 liberal arts majors, including business, education, science, fine arts and church professions.
