Snow totals from storm varied widely in Red River Valley

FARGO — The snow that fell across the Red River Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 10, varied wildly when it came to snow depths for various communities across northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

For example, many areas around Grand Forks reported precipitation totals from about 5 inches to about 6 inches, while Grand Forks Air Force Base reported 19.2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Based on weather service numbers, North Dakota cities reporting deep snow from Wednesday included: Finley, 17 inches; Litchville, 15.5 inches; Luverne, 14.8 inches; Hope, 14.2 inches; and Sharon, 14 inches.

Fargo’s official snowfall total was 1.6 inches, but areas near Fargo reported higher totals, including a reporting station in Moorhead that recorded 2.5 inches.

Sabin, Minn., reported 3.1 inches of snow, while Casselton, N.D., reported 6 inches.

Gusty winds were associated with Wednesday’s weather, and the weather service said tree branches were reported down in a number of communities, including Grand Forks and Valley City, N.D.
