Insight from WFPD: New year will result in new additions

The West Fargo Police Department extends to you a wish for a safe and happy holiday season. May your Christmas be filled with pleasant memories and may you have a prosperous New Year.

The men and women of the department give thanks to you for the support you continue to provide. It is through your contributions and commitment that our community is recognized as a safe place to live and work.

Going into 2011, the department will add an officer and a police canine team. Having a police working dog join the department has been evaluated for several years. With the continued growth of the community, it was felt now was the time to add a canine program. The dog and handler will receive training in the areas of apprehension, search, and drug detection. The team should be operational in April.

The biggest change coming for the department in 2011 will be a migration to the New World computer-aided dispatch and records management system. West Fargo Police and Fire Departments are member agencies of the consortium working on the multi-million dollar project over the past three years. Once implemented, the system will provide for a more effective response and utilization of resources.

The members of the department look forward to serving you in 2011. Slow down, buckle up and arrive alive.
